Putah Creek Report 9/8/2026
Putah Creek Fishing Report | September 2026
Target Species: Rainbow Trout
Fishing Method: Nymphs with Indicator
Leader Length: 6 to 8 feet
CFS: 350-450
Fishing Overview:
Late summer is upon us. As we transition into fall the flows are going and temperatures begin to drop and some of the best fishing on Putah is ahead of us. With an amazing summer season it’s only getting better with the flows starting to hit the 350/450 range. That narrows a lot of the fish hole ding areas and will help identify where to start targeting fish and more of the creek is exposed.
🎯 Primary Method
Nymphing with a 10’ 4-weight and a Rio Gold line.
This time of year allows anglers to confidently throw larger fly patterns. Don’t hesitate to experiment with bigger flies and more aggressive presentations as fish become increasingly opportunistic during summer flows.
🔥 What’s Working: Flies
Blowtorch size #16, tungsten darth Baetis (Umpqua) , WD-40 #20, Mercer Micro Mayfly #18, Black, Red, and Green Midges #20
💡 Strategy Tip
As flows begin to drop enter the creek with eyes on the deeper areas now’s the time to start dropping tippit size and fly size
